Each can be downloaded and played through at your own pace. You can also throw your creations straight into Apple Music for playback or syncing across your library.įor those at the start of their musical journey (or looking for a refresher), GarageBand features a series of tutorials across guitar and piano that feature the likes of Fall Out Boy, Death Cab for Cutie, Rush, John Legend, and more. Mac users with disk drives can still burn to CD, too, but for most of us the ability to export into MP3, AIFF, WAV, or AAC will be more than enough, with multiple quality presets. You can share directly to SoundCloud, too, as well as AirDrop your creations to your other devices or even to a friend to continue working on. While it’s not quite as easy to navigate without a mouse, keyboard shortcuts on iPad help things, and both platforms have the advantage of more tactile input – including “Remix sessions” that let users tweak songs like Lady Gaga’s Free Woman. We used a combination of a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 connected via a Thunderbolt dock, a Blue Yeti X mic, and even the laptop’s own microphone array.Īll hardware is configured when you first load a project, and if you come back to something after you’ve unplugged, say, your output speakers, GarageBand will default to the built-in options.Īs you’d imagine, Apple has put plenty of emphasis on building GarageBand into its hardware ecosystem, and that means you can pick up your GarageBand on iOS or iPadOS, too. You can rack up 256 tracks within a single project, and depending on your setup you may need additional hardware to record your own instruments. It’s clean, with a lengthy workspace and plenty of tools buried within. If you’ve not used GarageBand for a while you’ll be pleased to know those bizarre “wood-paneled” instrument icons are really the only holdover from Apple’s skeuomorphic fascination, and at first glance, GarageBand looks, well, a lot like any other DAW (digital audio workstation). You’re also likely to be able to do more recording and editing while away from a wall plug, thanks to the M1 chip’s improved power efficiency. Mark, you could plug directly into your audio interface and use one of the amps included in Garageband.a friend of mine does that.here’s a link to one of his recordings.Scott Anderson is his name. While there are no specific Apple Silicon features (we’ve also tested it on an Intel-based 16-inch MacBook from 2019), it’s worth mentioning that it does feel smoother and export times are likely to be shorter on newer hardware. I just bought an awesome Shobud 70's amp and am really digging the tone. I do have a Shure-57 and will probably experiment with that at some point down the road. i just want something reasonably quick and simple as I do this during the evenings and have about an hour or so practice time every night. GarageBand is a powerful audio recording and editing software for Mac, but getting started is tough. Only problem with your setup for me is I want to avoid getting all the mic's out. This tutorial will show you how to use GarageBand. This is an effective approach in contemporary electronic music, when loudness is boosted using a clipper plug-in while minor. A common use for this plug-in is hard-clipping before the final mastering limiter. That type of sounds would work for what I'm after. The 1,854 cc, 48-degree V-twin is based on the Raider engine, but is all new and big on low-end torque, peaking at an impressive 126 ft-lb at just 2,500 rpm. More importantly, though, its engine is no longer a liquid-cooled V4, but is instead a big, air-cooled V-twin. It still has cruiser-based styling however, its design combines angles and curves that give it a unique, futuristic silhouette featuring an aggressive-looking face with familiar slanted headlight openings reminiscent of the R1. For one thing, its styling is a complete departure from Ventures past. The “TC” in its name stands for transcontinental, after all.Īside from sharing its name with Yamaha’s earlier luxury-touring bikes, this third-generation Venture is an entirely different machine. We got a chance to ride it in its most natural setting: along stretches of American interstate, secondary highways, and winding back roads that snaked through rolling hills. Well, this year, the Venture name has been resurrected yet again, and we were invited to Nashville, Tennessee, to ride the 2018 Star Venture TC, Yamaha’s newest highway hauler. It, too, lasted for a decade before Yamaha put it to bed once again. That time, however, although still decked out in full touring regalia, it featured very cruiser-ish styling cues. The Venture enjoyed a 10-year run before being discontinued, but it appeared again in 1999, all new, but still powered by a V4 engine. It was the first time Yamaha used this engine configuration, predating the similarly powered VMax by two years. The first-generation Venture, a big, cumbersome, angular luxury tourer, was introduced in 1983, and it was equipped with a liquid-cooled V4. The Venture name goes back a long way with Yamaha, first given to a big touring bike when touring bikes were a fairly new thing. Yamaha resurrects an old name but on a brand-new machine for those who like to spend hours on the road in luxury. This is achieved by a mathematical operation called a Fourier transform.Advances in materials science and engineering have played a central role in the development of classical computers and will undoubtedly be critical in propelling the maturation of quantum information technologies. When using magnetic field gradients, the obtained NMR signal contains different frequencies corresponding to the different tissue spin positions and is called the MRI signal. After sampling, the analog MRI signal is digitized and stored for processing, which consists of a separation of the signal contributions from different spatial locations represented by pixels in the final image. The portion of the gradient coils and the associated current that is perpendicular to the main magnetic field cause a force (Lorentz force) on the coils. The gradients are turned on and off very quickly in this process causing them to vibrate and producing the majority of the acoustic noise during MR image acquisition. Spatial encoding of the MRI signal is accomplished through the use of magnetic field gradients (smaller additional magnetic fields with an intensity that linearly depends on their spatial location): spins from protons in different locations precess at slightly different rates. The contrast in MR images originates from the fact that different tissues have, in general, different T1 and T2 relaxation times as this is especially true for soft tissues, it explains the excellent soft tissue contrast of MRI. Concurrently, the magnetization vector slowly relaxes towards its equilibrium orientation that is parallel to the magnetic field: this occurs with a time constant called the spin-lattice relaxation time (T1). The loss of coherence of the spin system attenuates the NMR signal with a time constant called the transverse relaxation time (T2). The NMR signal is attenuated due to two simultaneous relaxation processes. When a receiving coil (an electrical conductor) is put in the vicinity of the tissue, the transverse magnetization, that still rotates as the Larmor precession, will generate an electric current in the coil by Faraday induction: this is the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal. The duration of the RF pulse is chosen such that it tilts the spin magnetization perpendicularly to the magnetic field. When tuned to the Larmor frequency, the RF pulse is at resonance: it creates a phase coherence in the precession of all the proton spins. Excitationĭuring the image acquisition process, a radiofrequency (RF) pulse is emitted from the scanner. The parallel magnetization scales with the magnetic field intensity, basically at 3 T it will be twice the value obtained at 1.5 T. Additional preparation sequences can also be performed to manipulate the magnetization and so the image contrast, e.g. inversion preparation. The resulting magnetization of all protons inside the tissues aligns parallel to the magnetic field. The spin magnetization vector precesses (rotates) around the magnetic field at a frequency called the Larmor frequency, which is proportional to the magnetic field intensity. The proton, the nucleus of hydrogen, possesses an intrinsic magnetization called spin. In living tissues there are a lot of hydrogen atoms included in water molecules or in many different other molecules. The patient is placed in a static magnetic field produced by the magnet of the MRI scanner. Essentially, the process can be broken down into four parts:įor a more detailed description of each part of the process, please refer to the links scattered throughout this introduction and at the bottom of the page. What follows is a very abbreviated, 'broad strokes' description of the process. The physics of MRI are complicated and much harder to understand than those underpinning image generation in plain radiography, CT or ultrasound. As discussed below, an updated notice is required if a safe harbor 401(k) or 401(m) plan or notice is changed mid-year, and the mid-year change affects the content that is required to be in the safe harbor notice. Notice 2016-16 provides additional guidance regarding the rules for mid-year changes to safe harbor 401(k)/(m) plans and notices. The notice may be provided electronically. Special timing rules apply for employees who become eligible during the year. The annual notice requirement is satisfied if each employee eligible to participate is given, within a reasonable period before the beginning of the plan year, written notice of the employee's rights and obligations under the plan, and the notice meets certain content and timing requirements. Sections 1.401(k)-3 and/or 1.401(m)-3, including notice requirements. A safe harbor plan must meet certain requirements under Reg. Safe harbor plans are deemed to satisfy the ADP test for elective contributions and/or the ACP test for matching contributions. A safe harbor 401(m) plan is described in IRC Section 401(m)(11) (traditional matching safe harbor) or Section 401(m)(12) (QACA matching safe harbor). 7334, Alert Guidelines 11, Employee and Matching Contributions PDFĪ safe harbor 401(k) plan is a plan that includes a cash or deferred arrangement described in IRC Section 401(k)(12) (traditional 401(k) safe harbor) or IRC Section 401(k)(13) (qualified automatic contribution arrangement (“QACA”) safe harbor). 7335, Alert Guidelines 12, Section 401(k) Requirements PDF This snapshot discusses the criteria for a permissible notice for a safe harbor 401(k) or 401(m) plan. Alternatively, if the amendment provides for a nonelective contribution of 4% (instead of 3% of compensation) for the plan year, the amendment may be made any time prior to the last day of the following plan year. Plan Sponsors are allowed to switch to a safe harbor 401(k) plan with nonelective contributions prior to the 30th day before the end of the plan year. Employees are still able to make or change an election at least once per year. For plan years beginning after December 31, 2019, the SECURE Act eliminated the safe harbor notice requirement for nonelective safe harbor plans. This snapshot was drafted prior to the SECURE Act, adopted on December 20, 2019. To double check, I uninstalled iStats Menu and it deleted the /Application Support/iStat Menus folder. Didn't check inside to realise that I was copying a database file. Question is how did the iStats Menus database get copied from one machine to the other? I reckon it was one of the /Application Support/ folders that I copied over, knowing that I'd want the same settings and data. Now the data only shows history for the last hour. So I decided to delete the database on this machine and restart. That file was exactly the same size as the same databases file on my other Mac, which is strange. ~/Library/Application Support/iStat Menus/databases I decided to look at where iStats keeps its database for the historical data: iCloud data (AppleID) was shared between this and my older machine, and I have a licence for Setapp for three machines.
